Everybody loves a bargain and on first impression the Stylus S21 seems like a great one. But the cost of any inkjet printer must be judged on how much its costs to run in terms of its printer ink cartridges. Although the printer is cheap the Epson D92 ink cartridges are not, but it doesn’t cost that much to run compared to other inkjet printers. Genuine Epson printer cartridges for the S21 contain DURABrite Ultra which is an ink technology developed by Epson to help give the best results in terms of quality and protections against things like fading and smudging. The quality of prints produced by the S21 is acceptable, but nothing special. The speed in which it produces these prints however is well below average with a 6×4 photo print taking 5 minutes from start to finish, this painfully slow even for a budget printer. Printing speed of standard text documents is not much better, Epson claim the S21 can print 25 pages per minute but in even sort of half dent quality the real world figure is more like 2 pages per minute. Built quality of the machine is nothing to write home about but on the other hand there nothing worth complaining about either (except for maybe the flimsy paper feed support) the overall built quality is reasonable. The Stylus S21 doesn’t have a awful lot of features so there not much to report about it, its cheap to buy, cheapish (for an inkjet these days) to run and you plug it in and it works, that’s it. But what more would you expect from a printer at this price.
